“Weather Balloon”
24-in X 24-in X 2-in
acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas
June 2026
Another painting from my series exploring unusual atmospheric conditions that some people (not me..., other people) tend to confuse with physical objects (sometimes structured flying crafts). This is, in fact, a structured craft that people will see in the skies. It is a "Weather Balloon," not a UFO, as some might suggest. Its an ordinary piece of meteorological equipment. I hope that showing what some of these completely ordinary weather events actually look like will prove, in at least some people's minds, that there's nothing unusual about these phenomenon…
Weather Balloon is an original 24" x 24" acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas that delivers a witty, tongue-in-cheek nod to classic government cover-ups, sci-fi folklore, and visionary cosmic art. Dominating the center of the canvas is an unmistakable retro-futuristic flying saucer, detailed with sleek metallic hull plating, arched panoramic viewports, and fine structural line work.
Rising behind the craft is an arched portal crowned by a glistening, textured teal hemisphere fringed with a sparkling white-silver border. Below, a radiant mosaic basin blazes with fiery red, orange, and lime-green cells encrusted with shimmering glitter and stippled texture. Enclosing the scene is a massive celestial orb rendered as a blue geodesic matrix of interconnected nodes and lines against a dark, cosmic perimeter filled with swirling spiral eddies and star bubbles. Balancing fine graphic precision with rich impasto sparkle, this painting is an imaginative, conversation-starting centerpiece for sci-fi enthusiasts and visionary art collectors alike.
