“Tree Zoob”

This acrylic painting is from my “Support Ukraine” series. 50% of the profit I receive from the sale of the original and/or fine-art prints of the paintings in this series.
The resilience of the Ukrainian people reminds me of an oak tree. You cut it down - It grows back - bigger and stronger than before. The strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people provided the inspiration for this acrylic painting. This tree takes the form of the “Tryzub” (“tree-ZOOB” - meaning three teeth or trident). This symbol has represented Ukraine for more than 1,000 years - since Volodymyr the Great (r. 980-1015)- and continues to remind us that Ukraine will win. The leaves take the colors of the Ukrainian flag - blue over yellow - representing a peaceful blue sky over a sunflower field - once a common sight across in that part of our world. Each individual leaf is a heart representing one of the many defenders who’s paid the ultimate price and gave his life on the alter of freedom. We must honor and remember the sacrifices being made right this moment to protect the democratic way of life that we’ve come to take for granted.
Freedom really isn’t free. Democracy must be defended against the centralization of power in the hands of a few connected oligarchs. Here in America, we’ve started our own descent down a slippery slope - allowing the concentration of power many of our historical statesmen warned us against. To any Ukrainian (& particularly any defender of Ukraine) who happens across this page, thank you for showing the world what bravery, courage, loyalty, skill, determination, ingenuity, strength, ferocity, sacrifice, compassion, etc… look like!
