“Lens Flares”

24-in X 30-in X 1-in

acrylic on stretched canvas

Aug. 2025

This original acrylic painting on canvas depicts a frustrating technological quirk affecting photographic & video equipment known as a "Lens Flare"

A “Lens Flare” is a common phenomenon that may produce visible artifacts in a recorded image whenever the cameras’ lens is pointed at an object that can't possibly exist. The specific effect of the phenomenon causes the normal scene being photographed to appear to contain what may look like some kind of portal or gateway; orb of light; or even a structured, metallic craft - none of which exist and therefore cannot actually be photographed (even when they appear in the photograph)!

These technological artifacts are created by the camera device itself and should be ignored. They definitely should not be contemplated, investigated, discussed, and they should never, ever be painted…

Lens Flares is an original 24" x 30" acrylic painting on stretched canvas that explores cosmic phenomena, visionary sacred geometry, and retro sci-fi intrigue. Anchored in the upper left corner, a metallic flying saucer hovers over deep space, detailed with fine graphic hull plates, indicator ports, and a dark, glitter-infused cockpit dome.

Radiating across the field is a constellation of vibrant, dimensional lens flares re-imagined as sacred geometry mandalas, nested concentric stars, and floating planetary orbs. A brilliant multi-tiered star polyhedron anchors the lower right, bursting with prismatic layers of coral, yellow, turquoise, and violet. Accented with swirling spiral eddies, textured glitter centers, tactile stippling, and golden starbursts, the composition balances deep galactic blues with radiant neon warmth. This original statement painting brings high-frequency energy and imaginative depth to any modern fine art collection.
