“Disco Fish”
12-in X 16-in
acrylic & mixed media on canvas panel
Sept 2024
Exploding with chromatic energy and hypnotic rhythm, this original mixed-media painting transforms native aquatic wildlife into a vibrant, visionary portrait. Rendered in extreme close-up, the profile of the fish commands attention with a striking, fiery red-and-orange eye anchoring the focal plane. Thousands of hand-applied pointillist dots cascade across the head and gill plate in high-contrast constellations of electric lime, turquoise, magenta, hot pink, and deep indigo.
Framing the organic form of the fish are sweeping, arching bands echoing mandala patterns and cosmic currents. Layered passages of marigold, cobalt blue, and golden textured embellishments provide an architectural boundary that pulses against the kinetic speckling of the skin. The dynamic interplay of tactile dot-work, fluorescent vibrancy, and deep water tones delivers an electric interpretation of life beneath the surface.
