“Crimean Oak”
11-in X 14-in
acrylic on canvas panel
Dec. 2025
This acrylic painting is from my “Support Ukraine” series. 50% of the profit I receive from the sale of the original and/or fine-art prints of the paintings in this series.
You can hack all the limbs off an oak tree and cut it back to nothing but a stump in the ground. That mighty oak tree will grow back bigger and stronger than ever. The resilience of the Ukrainian people reminds me of an oak tree. I painted this with that thought in mind. The tree represents the strength of the Ukrainian people. It’s trunk is marked with the “Tryzub” (“tree-ZOOB” - meaning three teeth or trident) symbol, which has represented Ukraine for more than 1,000 years - since Volodymyr the Great (r. 980-1015). The leaves are colored like the Ukrainian flag - blue over yellow - representing a peaceful blue sky over a sunflower field - once a common sight across their country. Each individual leaf is a heart representing one of the many defenders who’s paid the ultimate price and gave his life on the alter of freedom.
To any Ukrainian (& particularly any defender of Ukraine) who happens across this page, thank you for showing the world what bravery, courage, loyalty, skill, determination, ingenuity, strength, ferocity, sacrifice, compassion, etc… look like!
